1. Why should I hire a birth photographer?
The birth of your child is possibly the most life-changing day of your life. If you are Mum, you will be a bit busy to be taking pictures.
And if you are Dad, Mum is going to need your support: helping her focus, giving her back massages, getting her drinks of water. The last thing you want to be worried about is trying to capture it all. Thats where a birth photographer comes in. Not only will I take that stress off of you, but tell the story of how your bub entered the world: creatively, tastefully and quietly. My role is to blend into the background whilst capturing moments that will otherwise most likely be forgotten over time. Photos from your child’s birth are to be enjoyed for a lifetime, to be shown on their 18th birthday and poured over in moments of nostalgia. Its a small price to pay for years of enjoyment.
2. Did you have someone document the births of your children?
No. And I regret it. At the time, I didnt know anything like that existed. But I will have my next one photographed.![]()
3. How does it all work?
In a nutshell, you call me when you’re in labour, and I meet you at your birthing place and start shooting. There is no “set-up” per se – just my camera and myself. More detailed information will be sent upon inquiry.
4. Do you use a flash during the births?
95% of the time, I dont. I feel a flash can sometimes be obtrusive in the most vulnerable times during labour, and so I try to avoid it as much as possible. However, this does mean there might be an amount of “grain” in the photos. It doesnt necessarily detract from the photo, but gives it more a “film” feel - raw and real.
5. Do you shoot anything other than births?
I do.
I do maternity sessions, newborns, children and families. Whilst I specialise in birth photography and it is my main focus, I do have limited sessions available on the weekends for other things. If you are interested, please contact me.
6. What is your pricing?
Its different for different types of sessions, so its best to contact me for more information. My pricing does include the disc of edited digital negatives, because I would much rather my clients have them than having them sit unused on my hard drive.
7. How soon after my shoot will I get my photos?
For births, I generally tend to get a handful of edited photos up as a sneak peek within 24-48 hours afterward. The rest of the photos will be finished within 4 weeks after the birth. For other sessions, generally 4-6 weeks for all editing to be completed.
8. Can I meet you before booking you for a birth?
Absolutely. I understand completely the need to feel comfortable with the people in your birth space and I want you to be certain that you want me there. If you would prefer to meet me, we can set up a date for coffee or lunch.
If you have a question that you dont see listed here, please feel free to contact me via the “contact” form on this website.
